Wisdom Tooth
Bite back at wisdom tooth pain—gently, safely, and in one visit.
At Realtooth, our internationally trained oral surgeons use CBCT-guided planning, minimally invasive techniques, and compassionate care to treat painful or impacted wisdom teeth with faster recovery and predictable results.
What Are Wisdom Teeth?
Wisdom teeth are your third molars, the last adult teeth to come in—usually between ages 17–25. Because space at the back of the jaw is limited, they may tilt, get trapped (impacted), or partially erupt, increasing the risk of infection and food trapping.
At Realtooth, Lucknow, we assess them with OPG and CBCT to map root shape, bone support, and nerve proximity before recommending any treatment.
Common Wisdom Tooth Problems
Impaction
Mesio-angular, vertical, horizontal, or distal impactions may press on the second molar and cause pain or decay.
Pericoronitis
A gum flap over a partially erupted tooth traps food → swelling, bad breath, jaw stiffness.
Tooth Decay & Gum Disease
Hard-to-clean position leads to cavities and periodontal pockets—often affecting the neighboring molar too.
Cysts
Long-standing impactions may form dentigerous cysts, damaging bone/nearby teeth.
Jaw Pain, Headaches & Bite Trauma
Pressure and cheek biting can cause referred pain and discomfort.
When You Should See a Dentist
Book an assessment if you have:
- Persistent pain/pressure at the back of the jaw and sometime to ear.
- Swelling, bad breath, or bad taste (possible infection), usually during morning wakeup and rest time.
- Difficulty opening your mouth or pain while chewing is very common during acute stage.
- A red, swollen gum flap over a partially erupted tooth.
- Food trapping behind the last molar despite careful cleaning.
- Decay or sensitivity in the second molar behind the wisdom tooth.
- You’re planning braces/aligners, travel, exams, or have medical conditions where infections complicate health
- You’re 16–25 and haven’t had a wisdom-tooth evaluation—early imaging prevents emergencies
Why Wisdom Teeth Hurt

FAQs
No. If a wisdom tooth is healthy, fully erupted, easy to clean, and not affecting nearby teeth, we may monitor it with periodic X-rays.
You’ll be numb during the procedure. Most patients feel pressure, not pain. Post-op discomfort is manageable with prescribed medication and cold packs.
A tooth trapped in the jaw or gums (often tilted/partially erupted). It can cause pain, infection, damage to nearby teeth, or cysts.
Many people feel much better in 3–5 days and near-normal in 7–10 days, depending on complexity and aftercare.
Antibiotics calm infection but don’t resolve an impaction. Definitive treatment is usually removal or gum reshapingwhen appropriate.
Bleeding, swelling, dry socket, temporary jaw stiffness, and (rarely) nerve-related numbness—we reduce risks with CBCT planning and gentle technique.
No. Wisdom teeth are too far back to influence facial aesthetics.
We offer anxiety-aware care and sedation options after a medical evaluation.
Costs depend on simple vs. surgical extraction and X-ray/CBCT findings. You’ll get a clear, written estimate before treatment.
