ABOUT COVID-19?
Corona-virus disease 2019, is also known as COVID-19, has rapidly become a worldwide emergency. It is declared as a global pandemic by WHO. The pathogen responsible for such infection is the SARS-CoV-2. Although the new COVID -19 virus is different from SARS-CoV, it uses the same host receptor, i.e. ACE2.

HOW DOES IT SPREAD?
When a person suffering from this disease sneezes or coughs, a lot of droplets spread in the air or fall on the ground and nearby surfaces. If another person is nearby and inhales the droplets or touches these surfaces and then touches his face, eyes or mouth, he can get the infection. The chances are more if one is within a distance of less than 1 meter from the infected person.
ITS SYMPTOMS INCLUDE :
People may be sick with the virus for 1 to 14 days before developing symptoms.
The most common symptoms of coronavirus disease COVID-19 are
- fever,
- tiredness,
- dry cough.
- difficulty breathing (severe cases)
Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment.
More rarely, the disease can be serious and even fatal.
Older people, and people with other medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease), maybe more vulnerable to becoming severely ill.

WHY DENTISTRY IS A RISK BRANCH?
The COVID-19 virus was recently identified in the saliva of infected patients. Saliva can have a major role in human-to-human transmission. Dentists performing aerosol-generating procedures may be unknowingly providing direct care for infected but not yet diagnosed COVID-19 patients. Inhalation of airborne particles and aerosols produced during dental procedures on patients with COVID-19 can be a high-risk procedure in which dentists are directly and closely exposed to this virus. Therefore, it is crucial for dentists to refine preventive strategies to avoid the COVID-19 infection by focusing on patient placement, hand hygiene, and all personal protective equipment (PPE).

When most of the dental clinics are non-functional at this present situation due to lack of infrastructure, resources, manpower, sterilization machines, and many other reasons, we at Realthooth Dental Clinic in Lucknow, have put one step forward to serve our patients and society who are in an emergency and urgent need of dental treatment, by following all the IDA guidelines.
- We are treating only emergency cases for those people who have urgent need of dental treatment.
- We have a team of doctors who are working from their respective homes and are doing telephonic consultation from 12-5 pm for our patients, free of cost, in which we ask about the patient’s chief complaint and other related queries. If required we ask them to send their photograph of the concerned tooth from different aspects which we forward to our consultants for the further treatment plan.
- As per IDA guidelines, we are trying our best to relieve the pain and discomfort of our patients by prescribing proper medication.
- But if any patient is in urgent need of physical consultation, we work according to our dental committee which has issued the guidelines for the type of patient to be handled by physical consultation; for which first telephonic consultation is important. On the basis of their picture and input, our team of senior consultants decides for Physical consultation.
- This will help them as well as the society to stay protected at the time of this pandemic. So, please help us to serve humanity in a safer way and serve our society in this unfortunate pandemic situation so that we can together fight against this condition and safely pass through it.
